Gentle Yoga for challenged
bodiesThis
class is ideal for individuals who have difficulty getting up and down,
chronic health conditions or are recovering from injuries or illness.
Chairs and the wall are used to make the healing from the exercises
accessible to all ages, body sizes and conditions. Through the class
strength, flexibility, range of motion and reduced tension are
developed. The gentle class will include centering, warm ups, yoga
poses, breath work and relaxation.
Beginners
This class will be 1 hr 15
min. At the beginning of the class we will take some minutes to loosen
the joints and warm up the whole body. We will work with standing poses,
backbends, arm balancing, forward bends, twisting and restoratives.
Sometimes a theme might be added such as opening shoulders or hips,
abdominals, etc. Gradually poses will be linked one after the other and
with the sun salutation to build up stamina. Chairs, belts and the wall
will be used to ease yourself into the poses. More challenging
variations will be offered to whoever is ready for them. Awareness of
the breathing will be emphasized. The class will end up with 10 min
relaxation. Yoga can greatly assist in the treatment of arthritis,
carpal tunnel, lower back pain and conditions related to aging.
Intermediate
The class will be 1 hr 30
min. Inversions will be taught along with more intense forms of the
poses already introduced. Less challenging variations as well as resting
poses in between sequences will be offered to meet individual needs.
Linking poses will be used to generate heat and increase the heart rate.
